It is located on the Ibadan-Ife Express road a miles away from Ibadan International Airport and it is about a kilometer from the Lagos –Ibadan Express road; this gives it easy accessibility.

In 1989, during the tenure of Governor Abdul Kareem Adisa as Military Governor of Old Oyo State and the reign of Oba Yesufu Oloyede Ashanike as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, New Gbagi International Market was relocated from its old location in Ogunpa to its present site. This as a result of flooding that destroys and carried away their goods.
In 1991, sellers were motivated to vacate Ogunpa to the present site by Gov Adisa.
Meanwhile, the foundation stone of the New Site was laid by Late Chief Bola Ige the Former Governor of Old Oyo- State in 1980s. Thus, during the tenure of Alh Lamidi Adesina as Governor of Oyo State, the Market was renamed after Chief Bola Ige. Then becoming "Bola Ige International Market".

Over the Years, the market has developed to a community, if not a city, as it has population of over one million people including Apprentices, Workers, Distributors, Foreigners etc and over 40,000 shops, Kiosks, warehouse and Stalls.
